Advisory Board Member Responsibilities and Guidelines

Upbeat World and its collaborative partners recognize the value and importance of involving external stakeholders from appropriate fields (business and industry, government, education, and others) in the development, delivery, and promotion of its programs through program advisory boards. These groups provide a critical link between communities, businesses, governments, and practitioners in the field in order to achieve program quality and relevance. Upbeat World Advisors are charged with working with program partners in the formation and management of these boards and helping these groups realize their potential.

To support this effort, we have prepared the following set of expectations and guidelines. They are intended to offer recommendations for the structure, format, and function of an effective and successful advisory board.

Time

Be available to serve as a consultant to the Upbeat World leadership team for a minimum of 2 hours per month.

Attend monthly advisory board meetings at least 2 per quarter.

Make every effort to attend the annual board retreat.

I will meet these time commitments unless unforeseen and extenuating circumstances prevent me from doing so, in which case I will make alternative arrangements to stay abreast of the board's business.

Confidentiality

Respect the confidentiality of deliberations made at committee and board meetings and contribute to a climate of mutual trust and support between the advisory board and executive director.

I will maintain the confidentiality of board deliberations and will publicly support the decisions of the board, including those with which I might have been in disagreement. I am willing to sign an NDA to be included in the Advisory Board Agreement package.

Stewardship

I understand that as a member of the Advisory Board, I have a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that the organization does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals. I believe in the purpose and the mission of the organization, and I will act responsibly and prudently as its steward.

I will support, where possible, the recommendations of the committees. I will encourage, enable, and respect the participation and contributions of fellow advisory board members.

Non-compete

Advisor shall provide to Upbeat World with prior written notice if Advisor intends to provide any services, as an employee, consultant, or otherwise to any person, company, or entity that competes directly with the organization.
